i have read lots of blog lately and have a few friends ask me about my "word of the year". i had never thought of it really, but i started thinking and trying to decide what one little word i wanted to be mine for the year. what word do i want to describe my life, my goals, my thoughts for the year? i wanted to pick one that had great meaning, one that i was willing to keep and live by.
{note: remember how indecisive i am? it took me several days to decide.}
so, after lots and lots of thinking, here's my word ...
to dwell. that's my word. that's my goal. you see, in our first house, in which we lived for 4 years, i never hung anything on the walls. i never really had many decorations. {indecisive} was my word for a few years running i guess. we have now lived in our new house for 6 months and i haven't hung much up either.
enter in {to dwell}. in this year, i am going to dwell. i am going to live in my house. our old house, was just a house. i want this house to be a home and this is the year to make it happen. i've already started with my mantel and redecorating my dining room, but there's so much more to make it look how i want it.
beyond the decor, i want this house to be a home in feeling. i want to love being here. i want the best memories to be made here. i want the girls to want to be home and to be able to remember the small things and the memories we made here in this home.
even more than dwelling in my home, i want to focus my year on dwelling in the Lord. i want to keep my mind fixed on Him and my head in scripture. i want my family to learn to dwell in Him also and for us to focus more on God in our daily lives and not just at the dinner table when we pray. i think this scripture says it all.
“He who dwells in the Shelter of the Most High, will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust…If you make the Most High your dwelling, even the LORD, who is my refuge—then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent. He will command His angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. They will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.” Psalm 91:1-2, 9-12
